UAP Record Transfer Status 04/11/2025
Federal Agencies' UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena) Record Reviews and Transfers to NARA
Updates
Received confirmation that all DOD UAP records will be filtered through AARO before being transferred to NARA. Each DOD agency should still be doing independent reviews for records, but instead of transferring direct to NARA, they will go through AARO. This potentially adds another step where records can be left off the list to transfer or be transferred, but not publicly releasable. See notes under USAF and USSF for details.
On 04/03, following the closing of my NASA FOIAs, I e-mailed Dr. Daniel Evans of NASA’s Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Independent Study Team for more information on whether a review for UAP records was conducted. I am still awaiting a response.

Received request to narrow scope of FOIA:
“Your request does not sufficiently describe the desired records you are seeking. Requests should provide a description that define the specific records you are requesting in enough detail so that they can be located with a reasonable amount of effort. Generally, a record is reasonably described when the description contains sufficient file-related information (type of document, title, subject area, date of creation, originator, etc.); or the request contains enough event-related information (date and circumstances surrounding the event the record covers) to permit the conduct of an organized, non-random search.
In order for our office to continue to process your request, we need clarification into the items you are seeking.
We need to know which commands, offices or departments in the U.S. Air Force you are seeking from? Additionally, which office created the list of records for transfer to NARA and what is the time frame for the records you are seeking? Would you be able to provide references and/or transfer numbers? Please provide as much detail and description as possible to allow us to conduct of an organized, non-random search.”
I reached out to the Air Force/Space Force Agency Records Officer for details to provide the FOIA office and received this reply:
”Yes, the review is ongoing. The Air Force Declassification Office (AFDO), https://www.secretsdeclassified.af.mil/Contact-Us/ , reviews records from US Air Force and US Space Force. AFDO also works with DoD’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), https://www.aaro.mil/ . AARO is submitting the UAP record copies cleared and provided by DoD components to NARA - https://www.archives.gov/research/topics/uaps .”
